Dario Sainte Marie: A Key Figure at the Apollo 11 Launch

Dario Sainte Marie was invited and also attended the Apollo 11 launch. This historical milestone is not only a significant event for Chile but also holds a special place in the family’s history. Apollo 11 was the historic space mission that successfully landed the first humans on the Moon. Launched by NASA on July 16, 1969, the spacecraft carried astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Aldrin made their historic descent to the lunar surface in the Lunar Module "Eagle," while Collins orbited the Moon in the Command Module "Columbia."

Neil Armstrong famously became the first person to walk on the Moon, declaring, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Aldrin joined him shortly after, and together they spent about two hours exploring the surface, conducting experiments, and collecting lunar samples.

Apollo 11 marked a major achievement in space exploration and was a significant moment in the Cold War space race, symbolizing technological and human progress. The mission ended with a successful return to Earth on July 24, 1969.
